Trust Fall
I was thrilled to get this new YA romance from Lynn Painter and it did not disappoint. Julia is a small-town Nebraska girl whose family unexpectedly inherits millions. She ends up in a private academy in New York, where she catches the attention of Damion, who is mysterious and comes from a wealthy family. Lynn Painter is the queen of YA romance and I had a great time with this story.
Julia’s family inherits millions, but there are stipulations. Her family must move to New York City and she and her twin brother, Liam, must attend an exclusive private academy. Julia has just gone through a bad breakup and sees the move as a way to escape and start over. But she’s worried she won’t fit in and she needs help with math in order to graduate. Enter Damion, a mysterious, good-looking, rebellious son of a very wealthy family. He agrees to tutor Julia in math, but he has a secret. He is the great-nephew of the mysterious man who left her family their inheritance! At first, he thinks Julia’s family stole what should have been his, so he’s suspicious of them. Tutoring Julia is a way of finding out more.
My favorite part was watching Julia show Damion around her small Nebraska town and seeing him realize he has fallen for her. It’s sweet when they visit her favorite places and go for a boat ride. Back in New York, they attend events during the elite social season leading up to a ball. Julia struggles with some mean girls because she’s an outsider from Nebraska. I also think they’re jealous because they see Damion spending so much time with her.
The story started a little slow, but once Julia got to New York, I was hooked and didn’t want to put the book down. I loved watching them fall for each other. I didn’t enjoy the mean girls bullying, but I did like Beckett, Damion’s friend who is epecially funny and kind, and I would love to see him or Liam get their own stories someday.
While The Do-Over and Fake Skating are still my top favorite Painter YA romances, Trust Fall is one I’ll be recommending, and Painter fans especially won’t want to miss it! Thanks to the author, Simon & Schuster, and NetGalley for the ARC.
