If Books Could Kill
With a touch of magic, Roxie ends up inside her favorite romance author’s new book, except, plot twist, it’s really a crime thriller! Roxie is a thrill seeker who works temporary jobs and then goes off on adventures. She is doing self-defense training and when she leaves the gym, she sees a guy with a make a wish sign wearing a fedora. She makes a wish to be the heroine in a romance book, because, of course, everything always works out for them. There are lots of tongue-in-cheek romance tropes in the story that made me laugh. She stops in at the library and meets a guy that could be right out of a romance book. He flirts with her and asks her out to dinner, but then he tries to stab her with a knife! She realizes she’s been granted a wish to be a heroine in a book, only it’s a crime thriller! She escapes by hijacking an uber only there’s a sweet guy named Grant already in the car and they are being chased!
The story is fast paced as they try to figure out how to get out of the crime thriller story. They have to pose as a couple along the way and it isn’t long before sparks fly. I would have liked a little less time in Roxie’s head while she processed everything that was happening, but she was a hoot and the zany story kept me smiling.
