This is a charming story about meet-cutes.  It’s a light hearted friends to lover’s, slow burn romance that was such a fun read!  

Ainsley is a romance author who is still grieving over a break up with her ex. She heads out on a book tour for her new romance book, but runs into trouble when fans start asking about her love life. They want to know if her books are inspired by real life and what happened to Cole, whom she dedicated her first book to? When Ainsley blurts out about her break up with Cole, she falls apart. Luckily her publicist is there to rescue her.

Lucas, her best friend from university, is also there and he’s a calming presence in her chaos. She tells him about her writer’s block and they talk about how her first two books had meet-cutes in them. She likes the idea ‘that love could find you in some unexpected moment, rather than when you’re searching for it’. The story goes back and forth in time between present and the past when she first meets Cole (her ex), until they break up. My favorite parts are when Ainsley and Lucas are together in the present time.

Ainsley wants to find herself a meet-cute, thinking it will help her with her writer’s block. When she’s at the grocery store, she remembers that her mom and dad had their meet cute in the cereal aisle. She looks around and when she spots a cute guy, she gets the idea to run her cart into a stack of Charmin, thinking he will come to her rescue. It turns into a funny disaster. She ends up making a TikTok about it, telling viewers about her new experiment to throw herself into romcom situations. She calls it inspiration for a romance author with a broken heart and her fans love it!

She thinks about all the different tropes she can try, a trivia night, coffee shop where she could to spill coffee on a guy like in the movies (what could go wrong?), rec sports, escape room and more. She calls Lucas to enlist his help.

Lucas has a girl that he’s been dating, who is always busy at work because she’s trying to make partner and I cheered when they broke up. Lucas is so sweet and she just wasn’t! Lucas has always showed up for Ainsley and their banter is easy and natural. Ainsley begins to have little moments with him that that feel like more than just friends. This story is slightly spicy, but it takes a long time to get there. It’s a slow burn, but it felt like it took a little too long for Ainsley to realize Lucas was the one.

I really loved when they talk about whether they believe in soulmates, when Lucas says a soulmate could be simply be someone who makes you feel like yourself. There is so much humor in Ainsley’s disastrous attempts at meet cutes that they I loved. I enjoyed this meet-cute themed romance, other than the long slow burn and look forward to reading more books from this author. This is on sale right now for $1.99!
