This book is such a treat! It’s a second chance romance that starts with a scandal at a masked ball! It’s lighthearted and kept me smiling the whole way through.

When Charlotte is caught in a scandal at a masked ball, the Queen decrees she must find a husband by the end of the summer. Charlotte is beautiful and creative. She has an awful mother, but luckily, we don’t see much of her in the story. Charlotte has a silk mill with another woman, and she also does embroidery and comes up with new ideas and designs for the silk mill.  She and her gram decide to have a summer house party and invite prospective suitors to visit, including Wolfgang, the Duke of Warrick.

Wolfgang went through some tough times when he returned home from the Battle of Waterloo. Not only was he mourning the loss of friends in the war but his brother became ill and passed away. Then something happened between he and Charlotte (I won’t give it away) but his heart was broken and so was hers. Now, it’s three years later, and he tries to keep from falling for her again, but he soon realizes he’s jealous of her suitors and still crazy about her.

Their friends and the suitors all add fun to the mix at the summer party. Wolfgang and Charlotte have great chemistry and I enjoyed watching them try to resist each other.  They flirt in the best way and there are a few steamy scenes. There is a book before this one, The Trouble with Anna, where Charlotte and Wolfgang first meet. It features her brother, Julian, who is also Wolfgang’s best friend.  I haven’t read it yet so I think Just for the Season stood well on its own, but now I want to read to find out more about them all.

I really enjoyed the cheerful, romantic feel of the story. The summer house party, matchmaking gram and second chance at romance, all made for a feel-good read.  I think readers that enjoy historical romances that are lighthearted and joyful will enjoy this story.
