Love Felt Like This
Beverly is a professional puppeteer, Griffin is a famous rock star and they’re fake dating! I looked forward to reading this after enjoying Olivia’s first book If It Makes You Happy. I thought this was a unique story with the puppets. I’ve never seen that before!
Griffin and Beverly meet when they appear on a late night variety show, and he stumbles into her puppet act on live TV. They improvise and banter with each other, with Beverly performing as Bernie her bird puppet and it’s lighthearted and fun. The audience loved them – and so did I! My favorite parts of the story are when they were performing together.
Beverly is trying to revive a children’s puppet show and after their appearance, she is contacted by a potential sponsor who is interested in the show. They give her three months to put together plans for a presentation. She’s packed and ready to leave L.A. and return to her home town in the mountains of North Carolina to come up with ideas for the show. Then Griffin asks if he and his daughter can come along – he wants to write songs for her show!
Griffin is supposed to be writing songs for his new album but has been struggling with writer’s block. He has a young daughter, Ava, whose mother passed away a year ago. Ava loves Beverly’s Bird show and Griffin hopes that writing music for it will help get his creativity going again. After they are seen together in public they decide to fake date.
They have some challenges as they work together on the songs and ideas for the new show. Giffin falls first for Beverly and is inspired to write songs about his growing feelings for her. She is attracted to Griffin – he’s a hot, tattooed rock star after all – but she was badly burned by her ex who also became a famous rock star, so she’s cautious. The pace slowed down a bit for me as they worked together on the new show, but as they gradually grew closer, things got steamy between them.
Beverly’s younger teen brother Rob, and Griffin’s daughter Ava, are both great additions to the story. I also enjoyed seeing Beverly get a makeover for the Grammys – that was fun!
This was a cozy, lighthearted rock star romance with puppets, music, fake dating and a dramatic and exciting ending. It was a delight!
